Praying Through Doubt
Doubt often makes believers feel disqualified from prayer. We assume that uncertainty means our faith is weak, so we keep those questions to ourselves. Yet when reading scriptures, we find that many of the most faithful brought their questions directly to God.
Transparency in prayer allows space for honest questions. Instead of hiding our uncertainties, we place them into the hands of an all-powerful God and ask Him to guide us into a deeper understanding. He created us, and He is the only one that know every little detail about us. He knows our thoughts before we even think them. He knows our pain before we even feel it. He even knows what brings our JOY in the midnight hours. He knows it all and can be trusted with it all.
Praying through doubt is not about the absence of questions, no, not at all. Praying through doubt is knowing that, regardless of the outcome, God is faithful, and when we take our doubts and our fears to Him, He hears us, and yes, He will give us a deeper understanding of what we do not understand. Again, transparency is not the absence of questions. Transparency is the willingness to bring those questions to God. My challenge for you today, as you read Mark 9:24 and consider the reflection questions, journal what the Lord is speaking to you and how to apply it to your life. See you back here tomorrow!
Key Scripture
Mark 9:24
"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
Reflection
What questions about God, faith, or your life have you been carrying silently?
How can prayer become the place where those questions are explored rather than avoided?
Prayer
Good morning, Holy Spirit! I welcome you into my day. I give you all of my fears and my doubts, holding nothing back. Father, as I come to you in all honesty and transparency, I am trusting you to reveal those deeper understandings that I so desire, in your perfect time. Help me today, God, to apply all that you have spoken to me. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
