Bringing Our Emotions to God in Prayer
Prayer is not limited to calm, composed moments. Our anger, grief, disappointment, and confusion all belong in conversation with God. And I’m truly being reminded of this as the interruptions of life happens! Un-expected happenings like an extended hospital stay with my beloved mother! Right in the middle of writing this 5 day devotional😊God reminds me, always allow for interruptions, even when I don’t understand!
Many believers feel uncomfortable expressing strong emotions in prayer, but emotions are not obstacles to prayer, they are often the doorway into a deeper relationship with God.
When we bring Him our emotions honestly, we invite Him into the most vulnerable parts of our lives. The parts of our lives that we want no one else to see. Places that we even refuse to acknowledge even exist.
When we are transparent before God, it transforms prayer from something we perform into something we experience.
My challenge to you today is that you would re-read today’s devotional and be an open book before the Lord. Journal what He speaks to you through prayer and meditation on the scripture reference.
Key Scripture
Psalm 62:8
"Pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge."
Reflection
What emotions have you been carrying lately?
Try naming them honestly in prayer and inviting God into that space.
