Nothing Hidden

The Freedom of Being Transparent With God

Many people approach prayer as if they must edit their hearts before speaking to God. We think we must remove doubts, frustrations, and even hide the emotions that we think we shouldn't have. We tend to think that transparency is disrespectful to God, but the truth is that God already knows the heart. We must understand that transparency is relational between God and Us and He already sees what we try to hide.

When we choose honesty in prayer, we aren't informing Him of something new; we are inviting Him into places we might otherwise keep closed. Transparency in prayer begins with one simple truth: you don't have to pretend with God. Why? Because He created us and He already knows! Psalm 139:1-4, "You have searched me, Lord, and you know me… Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely” assures us that God knows and that should bring us freedom in knowing that we can come boldly and freely to Him with all our cares. My challenge to you today is to reflect on the questions below and journal what the Lord may be speaking to you.

Reflection

What emotions or thoughts have you been hesitant to express in your prayer time?

What might it look like to bring them before God in all honesty today?

Prayer

Search me, God, and reveal to me those negative emotions that I have been holding back and not releasing to you. Lord, teach me that I can come boldly, freely, and with all transparency to you and trust that you care for my every concern. Thank you, Father, for hearing and answering my prayer. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

~Amen and Amen ~
